Attendance
Regular attendance and punctuality are essential if we are to help your child achieve their full potential.
At Horninglow Primary School we believe that high attendance rates are a significant factor in maintaining the quality of education that we provide. If we are to maintain the continuity of education for all our children, maximise their potential and prepare them for the world of work, we must ensure that absenteeism is kept to an absolute minimum.
100% - 95% | As expected |
94% - 91% | At risk of persistent absence |
90% - 80% | Persistent absence |
79% - 51% | At risk of severe absence |
50% or less | Severe absence |
Horninglow Primary School works collaboratively with local partners and in partnership with families to successfully treat the root causes of absence and to remove barriers to attendance. As a school we follow the DfE model of ‘Working together to improve school attendance’. This is set out in Section 14 of ‘Working together to improve school attendance’ DfE statutory guidance for maintained schools, academies, independent schools and local authorities.
We expect all parents/carers will support their children by:
-
Aiming for 100% attendance
-
Arriving at the school for the start of registration so all children are ready to start lesson on time.
-
Informing a member of staff about any problems that may affect their child's attendance at the school.
-
Reporting all absences to the school before 09:00am on your child's first day of absence and everyday thereafter.
ââIf your child is off school due to illness please make sure you RING the office to advise us of the reason why your child is absent. If we receive no communication, the absence will be recorded as unauthorised and this will affect your child's attendance. We may also decide to complete a home visit as a welfare check. We are aware that it can be tricky deciding whether or not to keep your child off school, please therefore see below NHS guidance which will help you to understand this better.
